[community profile] icontalking is all about icons. Their sticky top post compiles forty icon-related communities. Also a good place for icon makers to share techniques, challenges, and resources.

The Internet Archive hosts a fabulous tool called Wayback Machine, where the web doesn't die. It's not obvious how to use it, so fortunately [personal profile] runpunkrun has written a fanfic-oriented guide to finding and saving material

[personal profile] mdlbear, who’s dealing with many more doctors than any twelve people should have to handle, mentioned this helpful resource: - https://www.benefitscheckup.org/find-my-benefits

[personal profile] cosmolinguist, who’s studying linguistics in the UK, has two excellent introductions to the International Phonetic Alphabet (aka the squiggly letters in better dictionaries which explain exactly how things sound):

[personal profile] sovay’s brilliant film reviews are worth reading even if you're never going to see them

So far I suspect I have made this film sound myth-minded and socially conscious; now I have to explain how weird it is. It kites from exploitation to compassion without batting an eye, hip-checks its way through melodrama and new wave and poetic realism and a couple of genres that don't have names, just fevers. The dialogue can and often does reflect the psychology of its characters, but just as often it goes straight for the pulp ("That's enough to make a bulldog bust its chain," "I'll never strike at your past, not even with a flower," "Last week I realized the President was right and Charlie was dead and I'd never get married") and in any case it's spoken in a stylized vacuum of false-front streets and interiors so expediently redressed, they take on the unmoored here now nowhere of ritual or dream.
