photo: abstract fall art
Three reddish-brown oak leaves, backs dotted with dew, rest near my front door. One balances at the edge of the black rubber door sill ramp, while the others splay on cool grey concrete, near the grey-green siding. Evokes, I hope, Mondrian.
They're hidden now, because of course we had our first snow fall--excuse me, "wintry mix." How's the weather by you?

Snowy here- the first fall came early this year.

It is finally getting colder here.

We got a thin layer of snow and then it all melted in the sun the next day. But the cold temps are now here to stay, I think...

They have planned days off anyway, plus bonus snow! Wooo hooo!

Stunning! Will that all melt away in a couple days or has true winter set in, freezing all the things?

Oh man, the only thing worst than lawns are neighbors who care too loudly.
I mean, they makes sense if you happen to live in a temperate island nation with constant rain. Your empire spread to a hundred different climates! Let go of the lawn!

Yikes, 30mph is definitely WIMDY as all get out. I hope the important things are tied down!
Ah, big flakes
are fun to watch (and around here, don't usually add up to much shoveling).

Always exciting, that first snow. Dig out the shovel and the boots and the sand and the ... there's a reason for so many hardware stores in the North!

That sounds messy and entirely not charming. May your ground stay warm enough to prevent black ice.
And you're all ready set?
Got your hats-boots-mittens and such?
At least cold temps
bring excuses to dig out the charming winter head gear.

Re: And you're all ready set?
Ooof, that hot weather sounds unbearable.

Oak trees are fabulous, and our yard features three kinds. I appreciate how they hold so tightly to their leaves throughout the winter, providing a sibilant rattle to the whistling winter winds.
My town was mostly an oak savanna before the colonialists arrived.
ALL THE ACORNS! I've longed to make acorn flour, but all the how-tos I've consulted begin "place acorns in a net bag in a stream for six weeks," and I'm just not equipped.

I think water droplets on leaves are one of my favorite things.

Sorry about the gloomy environs.
I bet that raindrops on leaves inspired the early inventors who developed magnifying lenses.

Whoa. You set me on a path of wild imagination!

When I was in sixth grade, I adored the early popular science book, Microbe Hunters, where I learned about van Leeuwenhoek's positive obsession with lenses, which led to the first microscope.
