At the farmer's market this morning* the farmer said: "it's an heirloom broccoli." I think it's too darn beautiful to eat. But it's an excellent reason to compare my old digicam against a very fancy (if older) loaner to see what I want from a new one.

(The hope is to shoot pix of my jewelry. Easier said than done. We created a macro-studio from a transparent plastic bin draped in muslin, with bright lights clipped outside and a seamless posterboard inside. But my old digicam won't let me adjust depth-of-field. Hence the loaner to play with. Actual jewelry pix only when they're publishable.)

*Moved inside until April 11. In a month the only freshness will be eggs and mushrooms, but my need for ground emu is year-round.

The fractal broccoli tend to seem psychedelic to me; they probably wouldn't if they were dark green or white, instead of this green, or orange.

I have never even attempted to cook one; sorry. On the rare occasions I cook broccoli, it's the ordinary kind, and I tend to break it into pieces. (I don't dislike broccoli, but it's all over and tends to be a default vegetable in things like stir-fry dishes, so I don't need to cook my own to satisfy my desire for broccoli. Which is less than my desire for mushrooms or cucumber (not cooked.))

I LOVE those. But I hate the idea of cutting into them.

That is truly awesome broccoli. I have never bought it, as I am led to believe that variety of broccoli bears some similarities to cauliflower.

And I don't do cauliflower. Or things that are like cauliflower. On principle. Hee.

I roast everything with salt and pepper and a little bit of olive oil and finish it with lemon, fwiw. That is the sadness of my boring, boring life. On the flipside, I have yet to find a green vegetable it doesn't make taste delicious.
