So I'm trying this out, and the first thing I can't understand is one can browse but not search? Huh?

Fortunately, where there's a need there's often a website, in this case:

Instantwatcher which works on the web and with apps and all sorts of good stuff. Log in to Netflix first, and you can stream from Instantwatcher's results.

Ditto, although this is different if you are using streaming Netflix via your Blu Ray, TV, or other device that is not a (laptop/desktop type) computer. I don't have a search function for Netflix when I play from my BluRay. I find it easiest to add things to my queue via search, etc. on my laptop and then watch on the bluray/TV. But I don't know what Jesse's browser setup is...

The search, in any case, is shitriffic, because if it doesn't have something available streaming, it will just show you a random collection of unrelated junk that has the same word or whatever. This offends my librarian sensibilities. Deeply.

LOL. I do the same thing. In fact, we'll sit in front of the computer and I'll add on my ipad so that it shows up in the queue.

I only search on the web site bc it'll show me the streaming and the ones i can put in the mail queue (and searches by actors, directors, etc). Plus i hate the putting in every letter (we watch through PS3)

And yes, not a librarian, but if I search for great 80s movie the first and all it brings up is crappy third part bc that streams...argh!!!

sorry jesse, no help, just ranting :)

Oh!!! I didn't realize that. You can't change your status? That's so bizarre. Best of luck!

from netflix.com, if I'm signed in and go to the Your Account link on the top of the page, there's a "Manage Account" section on the top right. If I click on "Change Plan", it gives me all the options: unlimited streaming only, DVD only, or unlimited streaming plus DVD, and lists the prices for each. I do currently have a streaming plus 1 DVD plan.

Not just librarian sensibilities but computer common-sense sensibilities! Search is something that it is SO easy for computers to do well that NOT doing it is clearly a bad business decision. Bad netflix; no biscuit.
