Six of mine chosen by
sanguinity back in February. Often I’m slow but I usually get there.
Comment on this thread with "Gimme six!" and I'll pick six of your icons. And then you
1. Make a post (including the meme info) about the icons I chose.
2. Other people can then comment and make their own posts.
3. Cycles of icon glee follow!
...or whatever subset of that as pleases you, really.
All icons were made by the incomparable
jackshoegazer, who emits hundreds of icons each quarter at the
iconomicon.
(shoes are key)
I adore shoes (never counted mine because horrifying). I don’t walk much, so they last a long time. When I’m in my chair, I need comfy yet very strong soles/toes to push open doors, so stylish they’re not. Music has been very important in my life. My mother played the piano, and hosted trios and quartets. My sister played in a jugband called J C and the Waterwalkers (but just for one gig). I was the alto singer/rhythm guitarist in the band which played rallies, as well as performing at various coffeehouses around town. I miss making music, I miss wearing snazzy shoes, but this icon reminds me that I can still enjoy these things.
(swimmer deluxe)
I started swimming when I was a very wee butterballbaby, and I haven’t stopped. I swim around three times/week. I used to swim laps, but now I swim time. That way I move in a loving environment for 30 or more minutes, and the intensity depends on how well I’m feeling. Often used to signify "following bliss."
(powertool) Photo by
sasha_feather, icon by me.
Beginning in 1993 years ago, my wheelchair improved my life so dramatically it’s hard to remember. First & foremost I could cross the street without fear, and hang out in the library again. And I could sit without pain. In fact, every six months or so I’ll forget why I use a chair, and use my walker instead. Within two days my entire body hurts and I’m dead tired. Oh yeah! The unwillingness to legitimate invisible impairment lives inside my head too.
(lucy rabbit) Photo by me, icon by Jack Shoegazer
That’s my grumpy, moaning, energetic, aging Australian cattle dog Lucy in our own back yard, sporting a freshly former rabbit in her mouth. Usually the rabbits get away from her, but not this time. I adore this picture, but I’m hesitant to use the icon because it might cause offense.
(blood makes noise)
The title of this Suzanne Vega song from 1992, which I encountered as the soundtrack for a particularly grim episode of Homicide, Life on the Street, S6E8. It’s useful for posts when I’m angry or rushed or overwhelmed with physicality.
(conjoined bambi)
Where does Jack find these images? I love the idea of one body, two heads, many disagreements. This icon reminds me it’s ok to argue and debate, especially among friends and colleagues.

Date: 2013-03-29 04:11 pm (UTC)Louie caught a squirrel once. The squirrel screamed, and everyone in the entire park stopped to turn and look. Even the softball game way down at the other end stopped. And then all the dog owners turned and looked at me, and then suddenly BAM I was standing all by myself in a circle of accusing looks. AS IF THEIR DOGS WOULD NEVER KILL A SQUIRREL, GIVEN THE CHANCE.
(Which is my longwinded defense of your Lucy icon.)
We just started HLOTS last night! Soon I will be able to follow other people's conversation!

Date: 2013-03-31 04:25 pm (UTC)A screaming squirrel is *ahem* awesome. Ours mostly chirp'n'chatter like rodents of leisure in psychoanalysis.
Your Louie a tree-climber, or just really really fast?
Honestly, our house has thirty trees on the lot, 15 of 'em oaks, and the squirrel (rabbit, ground squirrel, raccoon, coyote, owl, vulture, deer) situation is dramatic. And we're in the city! With sidewalks!
Oh, to have HLOTS before me. I watched it in real time, and haven't rewatched. Back then it TV sui generis. After The Wire, it may not be all that (but it probably won't be generating nightmares, either). Its singular deficit is not enough Melissa Leo.

Date: 2013-03-31 04:49 pm (UTC)Louie's not a tree-climber. I think maybe it was a young, indecisive squirrel, who zigged when he should have zagged? Louie was incredibly proud of himself, but also had no idea what one should do with a dead squirrel.
Haven't seen The Wire, so I don't have that to compare it to. Just a couple of eps in, and I'm still getting its measure, but I do like Howard already.
