A robin is trying to build her nest in my eavestrough, right where the breezeway joins the house. It's a cozy, sheltered location, but unfortunately, there's a window directly across from the nest. Every time she drops down to add another bit of grass, she then flies straight into the window. Perhaps she's seeing her reflection and reacting to another bird coming at the nest? We've now learned just how strong "the nesting instinct" can be!

We tried moving the nest; she rebuilt in the original spot. We tried taking apart the nest; she rebuilt it in the original spot. We come out and make horrible noises; she hides, and then comes back to continue nesting.

As I write this, every 2 minutes one obsessed robin goes "thunk" against the window. I fell asleep to it last night, I woke up to it this morning. Listening to this bird is reminding me of my own worst mental states, and bids fair to reintroduce me.

Any ideas on how to stop this?

ETA

The paper hawks only worked briefly. Eventually, we hung black lacey-like fabric over the window. She then moved around the corner to the next window, but shortly after disappeared. Her loss was my gain

a picture of a snake or a hawk on the window, right where she keeps bumping her head. she'll move the next to avoid it being eaten, then.

yay! I presume this means that you used a picture that was bigger than, you know, a robin.

Now the poor bird will be able to tell that joke about how it feels so good when it stops...

Well, I'm glad you found a solution! The Husband and I had to board up a hole in our house because of birds nesting in our house.
