Instead of journaling, I’ve been amusing myself with YouTube. I’ll share on the chance it will distract you pleasantly as well. Captioned except where noted.

When I was a teen I had a copy of Martin Gardner's Third Book of Mathematical Puzzles and Diversions. Looking the book up on Goodreads I was reminded that it's now published asHexaflexagons and Other Mathematical Diversions which I guess goes to show which chapter was the most popular :) It introduced me to not only the three sided trihexaflexagons in those videos but also the 6 sided hexahexaflexagons, and I had a piece of triangle paper from some maths book I would photocopy over and over and then do complex patterns on that would connect in different ways as the faces rotated. I also made greeting cards from tetraflexagons, which are made of squares, so that at first glance it just had the image on the front and the date on the back, but if you flexed it the greeting inside would appear.
And then when I worked at a science museum I created a hexaflexagon activity for the kids to do...but alas lack Vi Hart's ability to explain things, and not only were the kids baffled, even the other demonstrators didn't understand how to make them. I began to think they were doomed to remain an obscure 1950s maths toy known only to a tiny few. It was thus super cool to see these videos and know lots of other people love them as much as I do :)
