Date: 2018-05-30 11:20 pm (UTC)I finally understand why people rave about these. I'd purchased another brand's attempt (with a closed heel) but it required buckling. The ability to slip the Keen on and then snug it up is delicious.

Cast of Characters Here with Pix
It's your basic crime drama, except the principals are all adult women.
The baddy is a serial-killer/assasin-for-hire who's truly psychopathic. She kills to get money to go shopping. Jodie Comer infuses her portrayal of Villanelle with menace: she dons various masks to interact with people but her fundamental relationship is between herself and pleasure.
Her handler Konstantin is played by Kim Bodnia, last seen as the memorably shabby Danish detective Martin paired with autistic Swedish detective Saga Nóren in "The Bridge" -- aka "Bron || Broen." (And if you haven't seen The Bridge, go do that, as well.)
Sandra Oh is Eve Polastri, an underutilized, smart, MI5 analyst who's bored with her desk job, and has a hunch that the assassin is female. Her dour male boss puts up with her; her crumpled Polish husband plays the supportive wife role these sorts of entertainments generally offer. No explanation so far for why an American is working for MI5. Oh is, as always, stellar. You can see her mind working, her intelligence spilling out too fast for her to articulate.
I've only watched two eps and I'm totally hooked. It's currently running on BBC America; if you have cable you can sign in and watch at the site. We bought the season from Amazon, and we are not sorry.
I have a low tolerance for gore, and this show manages to do the Hitchcock trick of suggesting the worst possible things without showing them.

Date: 2018-06-01 04:33 pm (UTC)I love Sandra Oh so much and Fiona Shaw so much, Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a very good writer, I really want to see female versions of this trope-y dynamic, and aaaaalllll the internet buzz I've seen from people who've seen it seems really promising.

Date: 2018-06-01 08:34 pm (UTC)Wikipedia says not in fact my licence fees at work with BBC America per se, although there's doubtless some intricate co-funding arrangement to mean the BBC here get the right to show it:

Which kinds of tea do you drink? I’ve mostly been drinking greens lately, jasmine for everyday & a nicer pi lo chun for weekends
I used to wear keens, had to switch to chaco’s for the extra arch support (my ankles pronate) but they’re also comfortable & sturdy (though no closed toe)

Date: 2018-05-31 03:25 pm (UTC)This AM some sample "Chao Qing" green -- won't buy anymore, it has a metallic taste. My #1 caffeine used to be Russian Caravan (lapsang souchang & keemun & oolong) with cow milk. My go-to low-caf is Iron Goddess Oolong. This AM my no-caf was peppermint with lemon peel. Hmm, it's time for another cup!
My "JK's Zingy Mix" is 10 parts each pepper- and spearmint, 1 part dried ginger, and 2 parts Frontier Coop's luscious licorice blend. It's lovely both hot and cold.
---
I have three pairs of Chacos that I adore -- slip-on grey wool oxfords, pink canvas mary janes, and a low hiking-shoe lace-up.
I so wish Chaco made a closed-toe, because I need them to open doors when I'm in my wheelchair.
