Natalie Luhrs explains why I was SO GLAD I hadn't traveled further than my living room to watch the Hugo presentation.
And it includes the link to the fabulous transformative work of Chelsea anoutlawlife who cut half the running time of the presentation.
The remixed video includes:
- The category announcements
- The finalists names on screen
- The acceptance speeches.

It's autocraptioned.

Date: 2020-08-01 07:07 pm (UTC)He mispronounced FIYAH, a publication owned, edited, and written by Black people.
A word which is, we all need to note, spelled phonetically, no less! FFS.

Date: 2020-08-01 09:58 pm (UTC)Yeah.
It's not like I previously held GRRM in great esteem, it's just the same old story that change is never an event, it's always a slog-slog-slog.

Date: 2020-08-01 09:59 pm (UTC)There were some good panels!
And hours and hours of SFnal movies, with no info on whether they had subtitles or captions.

Date: 2020-08-01 09:03 pm (UTC)I just may have
Date: 2020-08-01 10:13 pm (UTC)...although frankly I tuned in, saw R.F. Kuang being eloquent about the continual struggle required, saw GRRM continuing to be GRRM, and tuned into the Token Girl panel. (Which I can't link you to, because it's on The Fantasy Network, but it's the 3rd panel on Wednesday and worth watching.
Any programming you enjoyed?
(I don't know why I assumed that WorldCon wouldn't have clueless mods and panelists saying "I don't know why I'm on this panel." It did. At least when that happens at WisCon, I'm among friends.)

Date: 2020-08-01 11:53 pm (UTC)I paid because I thought, "hey! probably only WorldCon I'd be able to tolerate".
Got what I paid for, eh?
(The crowd situation is suboptimal for wheeling, as I'm sure you know. But you seem a bit bolder than me.)

Date: 2020-08-01 10:10 pm (UTC)I was surprised the Hugos were so 'early' but I suppose time means much less when WorldCon is happening over so many timezones.

Date: 2020-08-01 10:15 pm (UTC)Indeed. It was the war of the generations, and haven't we been having this fight for decades now?
(I'll admit I was slightly amused by GRRM's hat collection, but I'm a hat-forward person.)

Date: 2020-08-01 10:30 pm (UTC)I've not read any of the Thrones books; the only thing I've read of his is The Dragon and the Cross, which was interesting.
The combo of the silvery with ears and the graphic, not pornographic, category aggression--

Date: 2020-08-02 12:44 am (UTC)Though Whey of the Flagon and the Crossed Buns would have a certain humor value.
Is it a Roc hat that Jeanette squeakered?

Date: 2020-08-03 08:29 pm (UTC)That particular hat looked hand-crafted. (And wow I want one -- Ng deftly balanced fury with a fuzzy-hat squeak!)

Date: 2020-08-03 08:30 pm (UTC)Check out the CoNZealand Fringe panels (next post for links) for a much more polished con -- shorter, but I actually enjoyed most of the panels. YT's autocraptions do a surprisingly good job -- names are blown, but they're onscreen.
