...although frankly I tuned in, saw R.F. Kuang being eloquent about the continual struggle required, saw GRRM continuing to be GRRM, and tuned into the Token Girl panel. (Which I can't link you to, because it's on The Fantasy Network, but it's the 3rd panel on Wednesday and worth watching.

Any programming you enjoyed?

(I don't know why I assumed that WorldCon wouldn't have clueless mods and panelists saying "I don't know why I'm on this panel." It did. At least when that happens at WisCon, I'm among friends.)

I was just a supporting member and did not pay the $190 to get the virtual programming.

I paid because I thought, "hey! probably only WorldCon I'd be able to tolerate".

(The crowd situation is suboptimal for wheeling, as I'm sure you know. But you seem a bit bolder than me.)

Yeah, I wheeled around the Dublin Worldcon; definitely not optimal.

I also wheeled around the San Jose Worldcon with a rental scooter; it was before I got Holtzmann the scooter. I drove it home since I live only five blocks from the convention center.

The sheer aggression remaining even in the Condensed Hugo Awards. I wonder if Jennette just happened to have her hat newly acquired last year handy or if there was some running to retrieve it from its usual home.

I was surprised the Hugos were so 'early' but I suppose time means much less when WorldCon is happening over so many timezones.

Indeed. It was the war of the generations, and haven't we been having this fight for decades now?

(I'll admit I was slightly amused by GRRM's hat collection, but I'm a hat-forward person.)

I've not read any of the Thrones books; the only thing I've read of his is The Dragon and the Cross, which was interesting.

GRRM also had one, so I'm wondering if they were dealer room booty 2019. during one of the Fringe presentations, she had a crown she'd cobbled together (I'm uncertain if there was a bit of a joke involved re her statement, but she is Astounding regardless of how that award was named, and she's got the Hugo so people can be Mad About It.

I agree that Kowal's segment was the most interesting. Also among the best recorded -- we could all use (decent) captions for the different recording levels. With my volume turned all the way up I couldn't hear Neil Gaiman's section.

Check out the CoNZealand Fringe panels (next post for links) for a much more polished con -- shorter, but I actually enjoyed most of the panels. YT's autocraptions do a surprisingly good job -- names are blown, but they're onscreen.
