Think Galacticon day the first
Friday, 26 June 2009 11:22 pmRoad trip with
bibliofile and
sasha_feather to Michigan Avenue in Chicago for Think Galacticon 2. The drive down from Madison was fine until around 16 miles out, where the message board warned 90 minutes to the Lake they call Michigan. It's Taste of Chicago; things are a little busy on downtown streets. Thank heavens Karen knows the city well: she whipped off the toll road onto neighborhood streets, and gave us an insider's tour. She finished by finding free street parking 2 blocks from the hotel.
We got upgraded to a rock star room on the top floor of the Blackstone Hotel. It is the fanciest hotel room I have ever seen. It has the barrel vault ceiling with the three skylights with remote control window shades. It has the portal window with a view over the park directly to the marina. Most remarkably, it has a 1-and-a-half story mirror in the bathroom which has a TV embedded *in the mirror* (in addition to the sound system At first Karen thought the remote control was for some other bathroom feature (tho' she couldn't figure out which one!) but she turned it on accidentally and we all freaked the fuck out. Sasha started singing "We're on a ship, we're on a fuckin' ship!" Truly I expect an international jewel thief to rappell in through a skylight and then have fight James Bond between the beds. Pix to come.
The planned evening activities were fun: but some folks had cleverly brought pretty paper, rubber stamps, glue and scissors, and the three of us fell to & indulged our inner kindergartners while yakkin' away about this, that, and the other: we shared the scissors with
heathergalaxy,

Looking forward to interesting panels tomorrow.
