Yesterday met someone new at
beer_marmalade Feminist SF book group. He asked, as you do, "so where do you work?" I replied "I'm too disabled to work."
Asked and answered, no angst, no regret, no hasty explanation of all the things I did do that made me worthwhile once.
That only took 20 years!

Date: 2010-06-23 12:35 pm (UTC)I have recently adopted "so, what do you do?" instead of "where do you work?" It seems like a more flexible question, inspired in part by friends of mine who aren't academics (where the question is often, "so, what department are you in?" as though we're not allowed to hang out with non-grads) or are in between jobs, or have no interest in jobbing.
