The Friday Five Dress to Confess & Impress

Thanks to magnetic_pole for a variant on the thefridayfive meme:

1. Have you ever done something awful to your hair? What happened?

I’m quite lucky in the hair department: it pretty much looks nice all the time, whether it’s long or short, straight or (see icon) bizarrely curled as a result of a psych med.

2. Conversely, at what time in your life have you looked your best?

I fondly remember a photo of myself in a tuxedo, with top hat, from ~1979. (Particularly happy memory because I no longer have the photo.)

3. Do you have a favorite article of clothing? Tell us what and why.

My deep purple Pendleton leather jacket always makes me feel particularly spiffy. It was a lovely birthday present: two friends accompanied me on a shopping expedition and enthusiastically pushed me outside my previous comfort zone. I've cherished it for more than a decade.

4. Confess the worst fashion trend you ever succumbed to.

That lilac silk jumpsuit was comfy, but it sure was expensive (and I was deathly afraid of eating in it due to my boob-cliff.) The shoulders were padded enough to reach both coasts. It complemented my mullet really well, though.

5. Are there any clothing/fashion trends today that you simply don’t understand?

High heels baffle me. How do people manage their balance? Why would they impair their mobility in this fashion?

Fun! I'm in complete agreement with you on the high heels. I wore them once, in high school, to my prom (which I attended with a boy was, though we hadn't talked about it at the time, similarly gay). Everything about that day was so weird and uncomfortable, from the posed prom pictures to an awkward dress to the impossible high heels to my parents' misplaced concern about safe sex (wow, that was so, so not happening).
