Well, it's not gone, yet.

I'm going to keep calm and carry on there for as long as possible, while helping people migrate over here.

I definitely think Dreamwidth is the best long-term alternative to all the other social media sites being suggested (Wordpress, Pillowfort, Facebook, etc.), because it's baked into their DNA not to accept advertising money, even if that means there are fewer features, and it's less shiny.

..and definitely fewer features--the ones that do exist appeal to the sort of geeks who loved 1999.

I like the shiny... But I prefer a matte finish, as long as I can be fairly sure I'm not the product for sale.
