Bella May Have IMHA
Wednesday, 25 September 2019 06:46 pmWe got to see Bella, and she was happy to see us—one wag, no wiggle.
She sacked out on the exam room linoleum snoring and snuffling. MyGuy stroked her chest for 45 minutes as she got her transfusion through her front left leg.

Tomorrow morning they’ll check her blood levels and see if this second infusion is improving things. They’re thinking she may have IMHA — immune mediated hemolytic anemia — which is an "interesting" disease. A teaching vet school is the place for her right now—they’re thinking three or more days.
Here's the gory medical details, for the curious.
…they've given her two infusions, and will see if her red blood cell count stays up tomorrow morning. They aspirated a splenetic mass, and it will take a couple days to assess the results: whether that's cancerous or an infection or what. They're giving her a sackload of meds just in case, including steroids, immune suppressants, and antibiotics — once the bloodwork (including PCR!) comes back, they'll back off any unneeded ones.
They shaved her belly so they could use ultrasound to guide the needle. No cone of shame needed because she’s such a good girl.
