My Kind of Club: Cloud Appreciation Society
Sunday, May 15th, 2022 05:56 pmAdmiring clouds has been one of my happy places since the pandemic started.
Today I discovered the Cloud Appreciation Society: they teach, they do cloud-a-day photos, they've got a free cloud spotting app Android/iOS, they're what I've been hungering for.
Pretty pictures, named "mamma" not described "dense grid of downward facing cones"

Date: 2022-05-16 01:16 am (UTC)I think I'll be spending a lot of time there.
They let you browse the gallery with useful filters. Today I learned that 22° haloes are a thing.

After admiring 20 or more examples, I'm primed to learn how a 22° halo happens.
Oooh nifty!

as well as a "name this cloud" forum. These pics would be great for an SF movie, as well as explaining how to use the photo db to find similar clouds

Date: 2022-05-17 09:29 pm (UTC)It's like art criticism for nature -- provides a new context for looking up. For those of us living in the land of "bored of the weather? wait five minutes" have lots of clouds to enjoy.
(I think Farm-in-Iowa-Finn would enjoy learning about this stuff and then educating the neighborhood at top speed & volume.
