jesse_the_k: Black dog staring overhead at squirrel out of frame (BELLA expectant)

A friend who is not on DW enjoyed the Amazon Prime series Night Sky, an SF show featuring Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons. It ended without resolution, since Amazon canceled it after 8 eps. My pal would love to read the fixit fic.

I tried my fandom due diligence with no joy:

  • zip zero zilch on AO3 or FF.net
  • a handful of Tumblr posts
  • the Reddit sub was folks bemoaning cancelation while mocking the idea of fic
  • Fandom.com site with empty pages
  • an unrelated Anime Discord server.
  • here on DW "night sky" interests yielded amateur astronomers, but nothing on [community profile] dwfanfic

Do you know of Night Sky fan works?

Or more/better places to search?

No, but I'll watch it and see if there's anything to be done, as I have Amazon this month.

I'm hoping the strikes can do something about these lightning cancellations. They're brutal.

I'm tentatively enjoying it as of the first episode, though I want to fire Byron into the sun.

I don't know if this specific lightning cancel was strike related, but one of the things the writers are complaining about is how seasons are put together in a way that makes them basically disposable content that's put together on a shoe string, then tossed away very easily. So they were trying to get more guarantees around working conditions and longevity of contracts. Maybe if (and when) they get what they want, the streaming companies won't toss out shows so easily. Amazon seems especially bad at this.

Re: And **why** are they willing to just dump content?

Honestly, since Amazon is an online retailer/seller of server space, not actually a studio, I assumed it's some kind of tax write off. They certainly can't be making any money off all this. Hollywood accounting.

I JUST WANT TO BUY THE DVD! But that also might have something to do with residuals, and measurable units of sales. They (and the other streaming platforms) have been notably silent on their actual viewing numbers on any given show, and there's some speculation that they're not paying fair residuals on streaming because to do that, they'd have to release the numbers, and that has a solid potential of scaring the shareholders.

Would sharing the question at [community profile] fictional_fans be worth it?

Maybe "unresolved ending" should be a warnings category on "does the dog die" website...
