Pneumatic Retinopexy

My latest excuse for not posting arrived around 4:30 this morning. MyGuy had a vitreal detachment in his weaker eye around 6 months ago. The eye doctor counseled "watchful waiting"; the unhappy sequel he was watching for happened this morning: a retinal tear. He will have scleral buckle surgery plus a vitrectomy tomorrow AM. Then they'll create a gas bubble to support the mended retina -- that's what Pneumatic Retinopexy means. He may have to spend the next couple days with his face down.

I hope for the best! The good news is this experience has introduced my dancing tongue to a host of polysyllabic words.

Just so you are forewarned, recovery from the buckle surgery can be pretty awful. They told me I was going to be in a lot of pain, but I just really didn't anticipate it well enough, not that you ever can.

Thanks for the warning! I'm practically a pharmacy so we should be well stocked. Was there anything you really wished you had had on hand -- MyGuy's the only driver so we're going to be lose membership in the middle class *wry grin*

It was one of those things where I'd be like, "heat! must have hot cloths!" and then "ice! ice immediately!" So ice packs, heat options, that sort of thing.

Plus an endless supply of the painkiller and steroid drops the doctor will give you.

Thanks so much for the good thoughts -- they get here even faster than FedEx!

Surgery went well today. Doc gave him an extra-large shot of kretoralac plus numbing agent, so he's literally feeling nothing right now.

The intriguing part is we're fast forwarding to our own future say 15 years hence: when he can no longer drive, and we must truly plan every trip a day in advance. And he's retired. (While I'm proud of my bus-riding-ability, he has always been the secret backup that gets me places when I forget to plan adequately).
