In October of 2009, nine bold feminists with disabilities started a path breaking blog. With hope in their hearts they named it FWD Feminists with Disabilities for a way forward. They (along with guest writers) posted more than 1300 items, addressing the intersections of disability, race, hetero/sexism, classism, popular culture and everyday life from multiple points of view.
I've learned from my impairment experience that duration is not the only measure of excellence. Sometimes I must accept that sometimes we do what we can for as long as it's possible, and then we must stop. (I may not like it, but reality is the boss of me.)
The FWD bloggers have announced they're closing down the blog. I've witnessed how much time and effort they've put into helping the blog host big ideas and challenging conversations. It's not easy, and sometimes actively vile. The good news is that it will remain available on the web as an archive, and the content is well-tagged. So if you didn't have a chance to check it out before, don't let today's announcement stop you.
Thank you so much to abbyjean, amandaw, Anna, Annaham, Chally, Kaninchen Zero, ouyangdan, s.e. smith, lauredhel for your hard work on FWD the blog. I hope we will all continue to participate in a way forward in the months and years to come.
