jesse_the_k: Knitted red heart in yellow circle on green field (Heart of Love)
From Dreamwidth's own [community profile] thefridayfive comm, a good way to meet new folks

1) Who made you feel good this week, and how?
My Morbid Corvid friend who is not on any social medium. We chatted, we strolled around, we connected. We’ve become closer friends in the last year and it’s so delightful to be able to speak honestly and share our pains and joys.

2) What did you do this week that moved you closer to reaching your goals?
Interviewed for volunteer position as a “bus buddy,” helping folks learn how to ride the bus in my town

3) What did you most enjoy doing this week?
Zooming around in my wheelchair without hesitation, because MyGuy replaced the worn-flat tires with spiffy new ones.

4) What did you learn this week?
Insight into medieval paleography thanks to Meetings with Remarkable Manuscripts, full review to come, as well as why medievalists are well-suited to being fans.

5) What’s the funniest thing that happened to you this week?
Thanks to [personal profile] sovay, a correction in the New York Times. When I read it aloud to MyGuy, I totally choked on the last sentence. “Pro tip” in the Gray Lady? I never thought I’d see the day.

March 6, 2018—Because of an editing error involving a satirical text-swapping web browser extension, an earlier version of this article misquoted a passage from an article by the Times reporter Jim Tankersley. The sentence referred to America’s narrowing trade deficit during “the Great Recession,” not during “the Time of Shedding and Cold Rocks.” (Pro tip: Disable your “Millennials to Snake People” extension when copying and pasting.)

Surprising – and gratifying – that the NYTimes, of all places, is publishing a high-quality essay series on disability. The writers are experts by experience, exploring the social model in public.

Rivers Solomon’s essay on diabetes is particularly insightful and beautifully written: they write what diabetes means at the intersection of black, fat, & dyke.

An article in today's Business section about FIFTY SHADES OF GREY (the movie) and its impact on the sex-toy industry. Almost totally without smirks...
