An article in today's Business section about FIFTY SHADES OF GREY (the movie) and its impact on the sex-toy industry. Almost totally without smirks...

Even Target, one of the nation’s largest retailers, recently began selling an official “Fifty Shades of Grey” “vibrating love ring,” an item intended for wear by men, but not on the finger.

Whenever a sex-related story hits the newsphere, check out the Times' version for elegantly phrased elisions of sexual activity as, umm, something humans do.

On the positive side, there's this:
begin quote There are cultural concerns, too. The book may have drawn a niche erotic practice into the spotlight, but some critics also saw a male protagonist who pressured his lover in a way BDSM enthusiasts say is antithetical to what should be a consensual relationship. quote ends
On the negative side, the reason they mention this ethical issue is its impact on Capitalist Commerce, because the NYTimes is after all the serialized yearbook of the ruling classes.

My parents had a perpetual NYT subscription from my infancy through early adulthood, so I know "The Grey Lady" well. My sincerely favorite bits were the Science column on Tuesday, and the book review section on Sunday ... And Dad always did the crosswords.

... I actively avoided the weddings.
