and of course there are wonderful Russian fans creating English and Spanish subtitles for the eight programs. You can read all about it here:

Not only will you learn where to find and enjoy this latest incarnation, I hope you LOL as much as I did over [tumbler.com profile] spiritcc's deadpan style.

My Breast Choices Show is Aniela McGuinness' awesome photo journal. She makes healthwork tangible documenting diagnosis and treatment, bilateral mastectomy, reconstruction. Worth one thousand clicks, because she's a great photographer illuminating health work.

Mouth sores are a common, horrible chemo companion. McGuinness uses an Ayurvedic technique, "oil pulling," that she claims heals them. As far as I know, Western medicine has no effective treatments, so it may be worth trying.
quote begins
As soon as I get out of bed I put a teaspoon of coconut oil with a few drops of clove oil in my mouth and I start gently swishing. If you are finding that your mouth is cramping up, use less oil. Then do your morning ritual, use the bathroom, make the bed, shower, feed the cats, meditate, etc. 20 minutes is the optimum time to get the full benefits and it will go by before you know it. You want to do it for a full 20 minutes. Its long enough to break through the mucus membrane and short enough not to have the toxin seep back in. Spit the oil into the trash, you don't want to clog your drains. Then rinse with salt water. DONE.

Ruti Regan has been told she's a pioneer, the first autistic rabbinic student at the Jewish Theological Seminary. But she doesn't believe that for a second.

She may be the first to admit it, said Regan, 30, "but I'm not the only one."

"What do you do in a beit midrash?" she asked, referring to a Jewish study hall. "You sit in the same place, learn with the same people, study the same texts, ask the same questions for hours on end, as you rock back and forth, and talk to each other in a sing-songy voice." Read more at

I LOVE THE 2013 RUSSIAN HOLMES SERIES. I love how it isn't all romantic-nostalgic about how wonderful the Victorian era was (there's really only a very small set of people who did well in that society), and how it TOTALLY admits that Holmes-as-we-know-him is a commercial property deliberately optimized for the popular taste, and it tries to take on EMPIRE and also THE INSTITUTIONALIZED VIOLENCE OF POLICING. Plus, also there is a fuck-ton of punching. (Sang likes punching!)

...although you prolly already knew all these things, as I'm pretty sure they're all in my Festivids letter. :-P

I think a lot of the people who hate it -- and they are legion! -- think this is. It's certainly one of the criticisms you see in the Cryllic media: that the England in this series looks a LOT like Russia, what with the filth and class war and corruption.

(And I'm like, um? Dickens was a little earlier than Doyle, sure, but...? There wasn't a big era change between the two? Like, Industrial Revolution London was pretty much the crap for pretty much everybody? And the reason Holmes could always see footprints on any floor was because the streets were THAT filthy with pollution, and the reason he could always see the recent footprints was because there were that many servants in nice homes, cleaning that filth away daily, and the reason there were that many servants was because it was that difficult to find any kind of work at all.)

But the original Russian series portrayed Baker Street like it was the set of Downton Abbey, and so a lot of people just couldn't get past that this wasn't nice and elegant and manners to the nth degree like that one was.

When really, this one was meant to be a corrective to that one.
