Why Bella, Why?

Spring has actually arrived! The maple trees are dropping green pollen all over the streets, there are teeny buds on the oaks, the tulips are in full bloom, and we're due for a freeze tonight.
Bella is delighted that the earthworms are wiggling their way into the sunshine. She likes to gnaw on them for a while and then rub the mess on her face.
How's the progress of spring in your corner of the planet? Do your pets do disgusting things?

Date: 2020-05-06 04:49 pm (UTC)Because our house has so many large windows, we have a problem with birds flying into the windows and either temporarily stunning themselves, or killing themselves (fortunately only for a few weeks in the spring and in the fall). At the sound of a bump Lucy runs immediately to the window and starts making the chitter noise that means "I see prey and I want it!" She also does this when there are birds outside doing birdy things, which means, a lot of the time.

We had a stubborn dumb robin 12 years ago, which I remember because I posted about it. Ha! Maybe those therapists who advise journaling are on to something?

Date: 2020-05-07 04:19 am (UTC)Aw, Bella. The pup we've been walking, Pup A, discovered some animal vomit--which I did not initially recognize because I am a city girl and don't know what to look for--and proceeded to try to eat it. YUCK!
Ah, dogs. They're such dogs. M.

Date: 2020-05-07 02:55 pm (UTC)I’m always amazed by the memories that get encoded so deeply in their tiny canine brains. Our girl still stops at a curb that had been carpeted in exploded squirrel last year. I know that smells stick hard in human brains. Given canine smell system is an order of magnitude more precise than ours, perhaps that’s why?
