Why and How To Buy A Paid Dreamwidth Account
Sunday, 4 December 2022 03:01 pmI’ve been happy to have a paid account here since opening day, 1 May 2009. Please join me! December is the best time to join, because your funds go 10% further thanks to the December Points bonus.
The paid account features I use every day:
- Journal and comment search. After 14 years, there are words I know I’ve posted and wise things my readers have said. Search lets me find them
- Subscription filters to curate my circle. I can follow or hide a tag in a journal or community
- Notifications I get email alerts when my favorite folks post
- Polls! They’re fun to write and guarantee more user interaction. Speaking of which, I can add a kudos/hearts/+1 poll to any entry. This allows shy passersby to participate without commenting
- Icon browser offers a keyword search to choose my icon visually — very handy for mobile
- Larger image hosting quota
- I know my posts will be here next decade
- I want to support the accessible ecosystem that makes sense to me, my home for the last 187 months.
So, hop on over to https://www.dreamwidth.org/shop and level up to a paid account. You can even try it out for a month. The 10% points bonus ends 11:59:59 UTC on 31 December -- show that in my time.
As

dw_news post
This is our annual way of saying "thank you" to everyone who supports us enough to keep this wild ride lurching along. This year, DW turned 13, which means it now would be old enough to have its own account on the site without parental permission. (I probably wouldn't have given permission if it asked -- I know what we get up to around here -- but go ask your father.) That makes 13 years of doing exactly what everyone confidently predicted would fail immediately: providing you all with a stable, solid online home that doesn't show you advertising, doesn't sell your data, and doesn't have venture capital or outside investment to repay. We gambled that there were enough of you who wanted an online home run by people you could predict (and not mercurial billionaires trying to mug every passerby for $8) and were willing to support us keeping it running, and that gamble has paid off in spades.
