jesse_the_k: One section pulled out from peeled orange (shared sweetness)

Since we met in 1977, MyGuy has always eaten the spongy white stuff which dwells between an orange and its skin (whether he picks it off the whole peeled orange or nibbles it away from the cut-open peel).

Yesterday I tried it. It's delicious! Michigan State University claims it also has as much vitamin C as the fruit.

What else am I missing?

My mom told us the orange pith has more vitamin C when we were kids. I seldom eat citrus anymore, but eat some of the pith when I do.

I think many fruits and veggies only need cleaning, not peeling, as the peels have nutritional value, too.

Think of traditional thick cut marmalades- most of what's in there is peel!

I've always eaten it because I like it, I am cheered to know it is also nutritious.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if it has more fiber in concentration than the juicy parts of an orange, too. Now I should figure out why I don't eat it myself (aside from not eating a lot of oranges in general). Is it a texture or other sensory aversion thing, or is it just habit?
