By road and by foot to Tuktoyaktuk
Thursday, November 16th, 2017 11:01 amI've always enjoyed winter weather, and that's one of the reasons I was drawn to Due South. Canonically, Fraser grew up in Tuktoyaktuk, the "End of the Road" coastal hamlet on the Beaufort Sea.
I encountered Tuk again today in Nadim Roberts' heartbreaking essay from GRANTA. They've built a hard road highway from Inuvik to Tuk; the article is about why Tuk residents call it "Bernard's Highway."
( CONTAINS: Generations of physical, sexual, social abuse of indigenous people )

book review: Family Properties by Beryl Satter
Thursday, August 8th, 2013 03:57 pmFamily Properties:
Race, Real Estate, and the Exploitation of Black Urban America
Beryl Satter
( If you only read one book this year... )
I strongly urge any white person interested in becoming a better ally to African-Americans to read Family Properties.
